Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: October 4, 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy is part of the Terms of Service and applies to the standard Lecture Hat Services. It sets requirements for your content and conduct, including AI features and shared material. Course Pilot activity is governed exclusively by the accepted Pilot Terms; an executed institutional agreement controls within its scope.

1. Lawful Use and Rights in Content

Your use must comply with applicable laws and the agreements governing the Services. You are responsible for the content you submit or share and must have the rights and permissions needed for that use. Do not use the Services to:

  • carry out unlawful activity, publish illegal content, or facilitate fraud or other wrongdoing;
  • infringe or misappropriate copyright, trademarks, trade secrets, or other rights;
  • disclose another person's private or personal information without authorization or a lawful basis, including credentials or confidential education records;
  • impersonate another person or organization in a misleading way, or misrepresent authority to access an account or submit material; or
  • send spam, bulk unsolicited messages, or deceptive promotional content.

2. Harmful Content and Conduct

Do not threaten, harass, stalk, or exploit another person, incite violence, distribute child sexual abuse material, or publish non-consensual intimate imagery. Do not use the Services to assist trafficking, sexual exploitation, or conduct likely to cause serious physical harm. Context such as academic discussion or reporting does not authorize an otherwise unlawful use.

3. Service and Network Integrity

  • Do not overburden or interfere with our systems or impose an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the infrastructure. Observe the limits of your plan.
  • Do not attack a service or network, introduce malware or other destructive code, or use the in-browser code sandbox or document-compilation service to obtain unauthorized access to networks, files, or equipment.
  • Use those execution features only for your work in the Services. Do not use them for cryptocurrency mining, operating a proxy or VPN, scanning or attacking systems, or compiling malware. Do not attempt to escape their isolation, escalate privileges, reach another user's resources or the host, persist unauthorized state, or bypass usage limits.
  • Do not bypass authentication, permission checks, rate limits, safety controls, or payment requirements; access another person's account without permission; or create accounts to evade enforcement or promotion limits.
  • Do not sell, rent, sublicense, or resell access to the Services or related data without our consent.
  • Do not reverse engineer or attempt to derive proprietary source code except as permitted by law, an applicable open-source license, or our written authorization.

Security testing must stay within any authorization we give. Report suspected vulnerabilities through our Security page and stop if testing exposes another person's data or disrupts service.

4. AI Features and Academic Integrity

Your Input and your use of Output must satisfy this Policy and the applicable conditions in the AI Use Disclosure. Do not use AI features to:

  • create or facilitate content or conduct prohibited above;
  • submit AI-assisted work in violation of your course, institution, employer, or publisher's rules, or falsely claim required independent work;
  • generate deceptive impersonations, forged evidence, fake reviews, or synthetic likenesses used to mislead or exploit another person;
  • make consequential decisions about credit, employment, housing, healthcare, or similar individual rights solely from unreviewed AI Output;
  • generate instructions intended to enable serious violence, weapon development, exploitation, or unauthorized cyber intrusion; or
  • evade provider safety safeguards or extract another user's confidential information.

You must review Output before relying on it and use qualified professional oversight where appropriate. Academic-email eligibility or paid access does not authorize prohibited academic work.

5. Recording

Before recording a lecture, conversation, or other communication, satisfy all applicable consent, notice, and other legal requirements and any institutional or venue policy. The Recording Consent page explains your responsibilities. Having technical access to a microphone, stream, or tab does not establish permission to record other people.

6. Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery

Do not publish or threaten to publish an intimate visual depiction of an identifiable person without that person's consent, including a digitally forged depiction or deepfake.

A depicted person or authorized representative may request removal by emailing [email protected] with the subject "NCII Removal Request." Include a physical or electronic signature, enough information to identify and locate the depiction, a statement of good-faith belief that it was published without consent, and contact information so we can reach you.

We will remove the depiction and make reasonable efforts to identify and remove known identical copies within 48 hours of receiving a valid request, consistent with the applicable TAKE IT DOWN Act requirements. The request process is available without an account or acceptance of the standard Terms, including for depictions made available through a Course Pilot. It does not require you to confront the person who posted it.

7. Reporting

Report other violations to [email protected]. Identify the specific content or share URL, relevant account if known, and conduct at issue. Copyright notices use the DMCA Policy; intimate-imagery requests use Section 6 above. Do not include unnecessary personal information in a report.

8. Enforcement

We cannot review every item before it is made available. We may investigate reports or suspected violations, request an explanation, remove or restrict content, disable share links, limit features, or suspend or terminate access. We may take immediate action for a security threat, serious harm, or a legal requirement.

Terms Section 11.2 governs account suspension and termination, including notice and an opportunity to address a breach where practicable and lawful, and applicable refund rights. Our decision not to act on one report does not waive our rights or promise that another report will have the same outcome.

9. Changes and Privacy

Material changes to this Policy follow the notice and prospective-effect rules in Terms Section 17.2. Any preservation or disclosure of user information in an investigation must follow applicable law, our Privacy Policy, and any executed DPA; this Policy is not a separate unlimited permission to disclose content.

10. Disputes

Terms Sections 15 and 16 govern standard-Service disputes, including individual arbitration and its exceptions and opt-out. The separate Course Pilot and institutional-agreement rules stated above continue to apply.
