Refund & Subscription Policy

Last updated: October 4, 2026

This Policy supplies the billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund terms for Lecture Hat Subscriptions. It supplements our Terms of Service and controls conflicts about those subjects. It applies during Public Beta; beta disclaimers do not remove paid-subscription refund rights. Course Pilot billing, if any, is governed by the accepted Pilot Terms or a separate institutional agreement.

Paid Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. A free academic or referral period with no payment method does not automatically create a paid Subscription.

1. Plans, Prices, and Currency

  • Standard: free, with no payment method required.
  • Pro monthly: US$15 per month, billed in advance.
  • Pro annual: US$150 per year, billed in advance.

The selected price, applicable discount, seat count, billing period, and any tax collected appear at checkout. Those purchase details govern your order. All prices are in U.S. dollars; your bank may charge exchange or foreign-transaction fees. Features and usage limits appear on the pricing page. Refund rights for a discontinued or materially degraded paid feature are preserved in Section 8.

2. Payment Processor and Authorization

Payments are processed and payment-instrument details stored by Stripe. We receive billing metadata rather than your full card number. Review Stripe's Privacy Policy for its processing. Keep your payment information accurate and current.

By enrolling in a paid Subscription, you authorize Lecture Hat, through Stripe, to charge the disclosed initial fee and the applicable fees and taxes for each later subscription period until you cancel. Where a trial is carried into checkout, the first charge occurs on the disclosed trial-end date. Bills and transaction history are available through the billing portal.

3. Automatic Renewal

Your Subscription automatically renews for periods of the same length at the applicable renewal price unless you cancel before the next renewal. Monthly plans renew monthly and annual plans renew annually. Any discount lasts for the period stated at enrollment. The checkout process identifies the recurring price, billing frequency, trial or promotion, and applicable terms before you authorize payment.

Cancel under Section 7 to stop future renewals. Your renewal date and plan appear in your billing settings. Cancellation of a paid plan does not by itself refund the current period, subject to Section 8 and applicable law.

4. Enrollment, Renewal, and Price Notices

4.1 We provide confirmation of your Subscription and access to its billing information and cancellation controls. For annual Subscriptions, our renewal-reminder process emails the account address 15–45 days before renewal with the renewal information and cancellation instructions.

4.2 We may change prices for future periods, introduce paid features, or change included functionality. Material billing changes receive at least 15 days' advance notice, or longer notice where required by law, stating the effective date and how to cancel. A price change applies at a future renewal; it does not retroactively increase a period you already paid for.

4.3 A promotional price expires according to the terms shown at enrollment. The disclosed regular price applies after the promotion ends unless you cancel. If you disagree with a material change, the cancellation and refund rights in Section 16 apply.

5. Free Trials and Introductory Offers

A trial that collects no payment method does not automatically convert to a paid Subscription. If you choose to subscribe through checkout during a trial, review the remaining trial period, first charge date, and recurring price. Unless you cancel that separately elected Subscription before its first charge date, it becomes paid and renews under Section 3.

6. Academic and Referral Promotions

6.1 Academic Discount

Eligible individual Pro users with a verified academic email domain ending in .edu or .edu followed by a two-letter country suffix may receive 20% off the regular Pro price when the discount is offered and applied at checkout. This domain-based offer is not proof of institutional affiliation. This offer applies only to individual Pro subscriptions; its duration and any combination with another offer are shown at checkout. Do not use an address you are not authorized to use or make multiple accounts to obtain duplicate benefits.

6.2 Academic Pro Trial

Eligible users with a qualifying academic email address may receive one 30-day Pro trial. It requires no payment method and returns to Standard when it ends without a charge. It is limited to users who have not already received the trial or held a paid Pro subscription. Deleting an account or changing the email does not create another trial entitlement.

If you subscribe during an active trial, checkout carries the remaining trial time, rounded up to a whole day, into the Stripe Subscription. You are charged when that carried trial ends unless you cancel first. The checkout price and applied academic discount govern those charges; unused free trial time has no cash value.

6.3 Program Changes and Abuse

We may change or stop offering a promotion for future participants, and may withhold or revoke a benefit obtained through self-referral, duplicate accounts, automation, fraud, or misrepresentation. Existing paid periods remain subject to the terms you accepted, our material-change notice obligations, and mandatory law. See the Privacy Policy's Notice of Financial Incentive for personal-information practices associated with academic and referral benefits.

6.4 Referral Promotion

While the referral program is enabled, a qualifying referral makes both the referring and referred users eligible for one 30-day Pro period. Both must use a qualifying academic email address. The referred user must be a new account, verify a non-disposable email address, claim no more than one referral attribution, and not refer themself. There is no minimum chat, document-upload, or account-age requirement under the current offer.

A referrer may create at most five pending or qualified referrals per calendar month. Each account may receive at most three free referral months in total, counting free access earned as either a referrer or a referred user. An eligible referrer with an active, trialing, or past-due paid Subscription may instead receive a US$15 Stripe account credit; that credit does not count toward the free-month cap. Rewards are non-transferable, non-refundable, and not redeemable for cash. Free access collects no payment method and does not start a paid Subscription. We may deny or revoke improperly obtained rewards under Section 6.3.

7. Cancellation and Plan Changes

7.1 Individual Pro users cancel at Settings → Subscriptions → Manage Subscription. This control opens the Stripe billing portal. Online cancellation requires no telephone call or reason. If you cannot use the controls, email [email protected] from your account address for assistance.

7.2 Cancellation stops future renewals and ordinarily takes effect at the end of the current paid term, when Standard limits resume. The portal shows the end date. An account-deletion request blocks account access immediately and does not itself immediately stop renewals. Cancel through the billing controls before requesting deletion, or contact support if you have already requested it; account access need not be restored to ask us to cancel. Deletion or termination may end paid access sooner, subject to the refund provisions. Uninstalling an application or leaving a team does not cancel the owner's Subscription.

7.3 Changes between monthly and annual plans, or changes in paid seats, follow the effective date, amount, and proration shown in the billing portal before you confirm them. We do not promise that every type of change takes effect immediately or has identical proration. Any adjustment you accept in that flow is preserved despite the default no-refund rule.

8. Refunds

8.1 Payments are final and partial periods are not refundable except for an adjustment accepted in checkout or the portal; a billing error; the pro-rata refund rights in Terms Sections 11.2, 17.1, and 17.2; a right stated in this Policy; or applicable law. We may also grant a discretionary refund or credit. A discretionary refund does not establish an entitlement for a later period.

8.2 We refund confirmed erroneous charges, such as duplicates or charges after an effective cancellation. Report a suspected error promptly, preferably within 30 days, to [email protected] with your account email, charge date and amount, and receipt identifier. This requested reporting period does not cut off a statutory dispute right.

8.3 If we terminate or suspend paid access for reasons other than your breach, discontinue or materially degrade a material paid feature, or you cancel before a material terms change takes effect, the applicable Terms provisions entitle you to a refund of prepaid fees for the unused remainder of the term. Additional mandatory rights for qualifying digital-service changes, including termination after a change and statutory refunds, remain available under Terms Section 17.1. Beta status does not remove these rights.

8.4 Approved refunds generally go through the original payment channel to the original payment method. Bank and processor posting times vary. Termination for your breach does not ordinarily entitle you to a refund, except where law requires one. None of these rules waives mandatory consumer remedies.

9. Failed Payments

If payment fails or remains unpaid, we may restrict paid features until payment is resolved. Update your payment method through the billing portal. A failed payment does not itself change the content-retention rules in our Privacy Policy.

10. Taxes

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, fees exclude applicable sales, use, VAT, GST, and similar indirect taxes. You are responsible for applicable taxes on your purchase that we itemize and collect, but not taxes on Lecture Hat's net income. Any amount collected is shown before purchase. This clause does not assert that a particular automated tax service is enabled.

11. Billing Disputes

Contact us about a good-faith payment disagreement so we can investigate and work with you to resolve it. You retain the rights offered by your bank or payment provider. We may suspend paid access associated with an unpaid disputed charge while it is unresolved, and amounts lawfully due remain payable; asking us to investigate a charge does not itself waive your rights.

12. Managing Your Subscription

The billing path in Section 7 shows your current plan, renewal information, receipts, and available payment, plan-change, and cancellation controls. Only the subscription owner can manage or cancel a subscription. For assistance with an existing shared subscription, contact [email protected] from the billing account address.

13. United States Consumer Rights

Automatic-renewal laws may require clear disclosures, affirmative consent, acknowledgments, reminders, notice of material changes, and an accessible cancellation method. We will honor the requirements that apply to your Subscription. Any mandatory right under the law of your state controls a conflicting provision here; accepting this Policy does not waive that right.

14. EEA and UK Withdrawal Rights

If you are an eligible consumer in the EEA or UK purchasing at a distance, you generally have 14 days from entering a service contract to withdraw without giving a reason, subject to applicable exceptions. Send an unequivocal statement to [email protected] or Lecture Hat, Inc., 7710 SW 67th Ave, South Miami, FL 33143-4532, USA. Any other legally valid method remains available. To help identify the purchase, provide your name, account email, purchase date, and Subscription if available; the optional form below is not required. Sending your statement before the withdrawal period expires meets the deadline. Using our normal cancellation controls stops renewal but does not necessarily communicate a request to withdraw and refund the current purchase; tell us when you seek withdrawal.

14.1 For online services, starting performance does not by itself eliminate withdrawal. If you expressly request performance during the withdrawal period, a proportionate charge for services supplied may be due only where the law's required information and consent conditions are met. A service withdrawal right is lost after full performance only under the conditions required by law.

14.2 Digital content not supplied on a tangible medium has a separate exception: withdrawal may end when supply begins only if the required prior express consent, acknowledgment of losing the right, and confirmation have been obtained. General acceptance of these Terms alone does not establish those conditions.

14.3 Where withdrawal applies, we reimburse payments without undue delay and within the period required by law, normally 14 days after notice, using the same payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise, without a reimbursement fee and subject only to lawful deductions. Failure to provide required withdrawal information may extend the withdrawal period. Mandatory local remedies for nonconforming services remain available.

14.4 Optional Model Withdrawal Form

Complete and send this form only if you wish to withdraw. It adapts the service portion of the EU model withdrawal form, Annex I(B) and the UK model cancellation form, Schedule 3, with Lecture Hat's contact details. You may instead send any unequivocal statement of withdrawal.

To: Lecture Hat, Inc., 7710 SW 67th Ave, South Miami, FL 33143-4532, USA; [email protected]

I/We (*) hereby give notice that I/We (*) withdraw from my/our (*) contract for the provision of the following service: [identify Subscription].

Name of consumer(s): [name]

Address of consumer(s): [address]

Signature of consumer(s) (only if this form is sent on paper): [signature]

(*) Delete as appropriate.

15. App Store Purchases

Lecture Hat currently sells subscriptions through web checkout using Stripe and does not offer in-app Subscription purchases through Apple. If store billing is introduced, the store's cancellation and refund process applies to purchases through that channel, together with your mandatory rights.

16. Changes to This Policy

Material changes apply prospectively with the advance notice required by Terms Section 17.2 and applicable law. The notice identifies the effective date and cancellation method. If you disagree, you may cancel before the effective date and request the pro-rata refund of prepaid unused fees provided in Terms Section 17.2. Cancellation is not your exclusive remedy where applicable law or these Terms provides another.

17. Contact and Disputes
