Live subtitles

Live subtitles let you record a session and get a transcript you can chat with, save, or search later.

Starting a session

Open the notebook you want the transcript to land in and start live subtitles. Your browser asks for microphone permission the first time. Captions appear within a few seconds of the first words.

Keep the tab open. The session runs in the browser, so closing the tab ends it.

While recording

  • Captions float above whatever you are reading, and the box can be dragged anywhere.
  • Ask a question at any point. The tutor can see what has been said so far as well as your documents.
  • Open a document while recording and it is linked to the session, ranked by how long you spent on it.
  • The pill above the captions shows elapsed time against your plan's per-session limit.

After the session

Stopping saves the transcript to the notebook under Transcripts. Each entry gets a short AI summary, timestamped paragraphs, and the documents you had open. From there you can copy it, reopen those documents, insert it into a note, or delete it.

Uploaded audio files can also be transcribed into the same place. Tick the transcripts option when you upload them.

Privacy

Audio is never stored. Speech is streamed to our transcription provider to produce text, and only the text is kept, in your notebook, until you delete it.

In a class, the teacher's privacy settings apply. A class can turn transcription off entirely, or keep transcripts out of storage. If recording is not permitted in your class, the option is unavailable rather than silent.
