Getting started
Lecture Hat is a workspace built around your own material. You bring the documents, and the AI tutor answers from them instead of from the open internet.
Create your account
- Go to lecturehat.com and sign up with your email address or a Google account.
- Confirm the code we email you, then accept the terms shown at sign-in.
- If your school gives you an address ending in .edu, use it. Academic accounts get a discount on Pro.
You land on your notebook list. Nothing is shared with anyone else unless you share it.
Your first notebook
A notebook is one course, project, or topic. Create one, give it a name, then add material to it:
- Drag files onto the document list. PDFs, slides, Word documents, images, audio, and video all work.
- Drop a whole folder to keep its structure.
- Write your own notes in a
.lectnote inside the notebook.
Uploads are indexed in the background. Large files take a few minutes before the tutor can quote them.
Once a document is indexed, ask a question from the notebook home. Answers cite the pages they came from, and clicking a citation opens that page.
What to read next
- Notebooks for tabs, uploads, and sharing.
- Bringing your Canvas course into Lecture Hat if your material lives in Canvas.
- Live subtitles to record a lecture or meeting and chat with the transcript.
